Reconnecting with the Earth and Myself

Well May was not the month for me in 2023. I was a caregiver to my family who got really ill and then I got really ill once they were well. Not exactly ideal and not something that I wanted to happen. I am a silver lining kind of girl though. It may take me a while to find what the silver lining is…. I mean, can anyone find good while they are feeling so awful? But, I finally did it.

I have been massiviely resisting slowing down and being okay with slowing down. For me, this meant less in-person events and being at home more. I actually get more done and I am able to connect with my family and friends. I realized that this was a time for connections.

I am a massive gardener (if you haven’t already realized) and the last few years I have been too busy to really have a decent garden. Now, a lot of my garden is self-sustaining and is somewhat low maintanence. But, to truly get a bunch of roses all summer, to be able to harvest from my garden, that requires time. I even have joined a small gardening club and we meet weekly at one of the members house who has a large garden space and we plant, compost and do all the things.

The last few years have been nothing but pivoting for small businesses and families. I was one of the people that didn’t rest during that time. I was incredibly busy and then had 3 kids doing school from home. So, though I didn’t relish being sick (at all). The world didn’t end because I wasn’t cramming as much as possible to do each day.

I think its good for all of us to take a minute and smell the roses. I have been reconnecting with friends, volunteering more at my kids schools and working more in my workshop than at events. I will be sharing my Urband Homesteading journey a bit this summer as I can, preserve and make the most of this summer’s harvest. I will be trying out new products like my produce bags and other eco friendly products that have been on my list to make. I hope you all stick around for this journey as I transition my business into a more sustainable lifestyle. Thank you as always for all the support.
