Many of us ask, what can I, as one person, do, but history shows us that everything good and bad starts because somebody does something or does not do something
— Sylvia Earle

The Beginning

My business started due to my oldest’ book report in 5th grade. They had an assignment to be part of a wax museum and embody a person from history. My kiddo chose Sylvia Earle, one of the first female oceanographers. Course, as a parent, you help your kiddo a lot with such a big project.

One of the things we discovered was Sylvia Earle’s passion about the ocean, including the pollution, plastic and toxins killing the fish and wildlife. This was also when there was a huge media buzz about the plastic garbage patch we had in the ocean.

I took a look around and wondered what we could be doing better. We recycled and composted, but I felt like we could do better, so I started to research ways we could cut down on our plastic consumption.

The Idea

When I started to research ways to cut down on our plastic, I stumbled upon beeswax wraps. I had heard of them of course, but hadn’t truly tried them. I am a crafty person, so I decided to make my own. It took some trial and error until I stumbled upon the mixture I now use.

My friends were interested and wanted to make them some. So, I did and then I had the idea that I could make a business of this.

Since the beeswax wraps, I have added more products as I continue on my own low waste/zero waste journey. I love finding new ways to make reusables fun and accessible. My kids still inspire a lot of products, like the reusable water balloons.

100% Handmade and Family Run

Everything is handmade by me. I cut the fabric and make it sew. My products are made from natural fibers, which can sometimes be challenging to find, but I enjoy the challenge.

My kids help me package and label products and my oldest now helps me prepare a few of the products.

This business was built around being available for my kids. They go to Farmers Markets with me and inspire my creativity. They also sometimes critique my sales pitch and then show me how its done, while making their own sales at the Farmers Markets.
