Eco Friendly during the Holiday

Its another Holiday coming up and if you are a parent you know…. plastic eggs. It can seem overwhelming when you are a parent when you are trying to be sustainable. So let’s talk about a few tips you can use!

Baskets. There are all kinds of baskets that are available. The key is to be looking for non-plastic buckets. Will one bucket make a difference? That is up for debate, but when more and more consumers don’t buy plastic buckets… they will offer less. So, what can you use?

Go thrifting and get some non-plastic baskets. You can find all kinds of sizes and kinds. Wooden, wicker and all sorts. Looking for an unconventional basket? Fill an umbrella, rain boots, backpack, travel pillow, a craft kit or terrerium kit.

The other common element are those plastic Easter eggs. I know for myself as a parent they would get everywhere. Going to an egg hunt? More and more they are recycying the eggs. Look for a bin or ask a volunteer where to drop off your easter eggs (after you empty them) before you leave. Most events will then reuse them the next year. I know i started looking for events that would do this. One of the first we went to was the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival where I was introducted to the concept. I thought that was a great idea and I wouldn’t be taking those eggs home!

You will constantly hear me say that you can make little changes that can have a big impact. As a parent, I found I could not do the zero waste approach. It was overwhelming and I constantly felt I was failing. BUT, I learned that there were ways I could change. Little things. I also would communicate to my kids about it and they make their own eco friendly choices.

I hope these tips are helpful and happy holidays to those that celebrate this Easter holiday!
