Love.... for Gardening!

Its the month of Love, but its also when I can start my love of gardening. I live in Zone 6 and by the end of January there starts being plants I can start inside. So February is where I start getting excited.

Where to start? How do I find my zone? Of course, google is always one way to go. You can also go to Almanac.com, go to Gardening and then put in your zip code. This is an easy way to find out when to start your seedlings, when a good time to plant is and so much more. Now if you aren’t a gardener, but maybe a canner or just want to know when you can expect various fruit and veggies in your area. This is a great way to be able to plan to put some time on the calendar for your canning.

Why as a sustainable home goods biz person am I talking about gardening? Because it is sustainable. I am all about having a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Growing your veggies, fruit and herbs is also an affordable option. Make sure to make a list of how your will use your abundance. Have an excess of herbs? You can freeze them with oil in an ice cube tray to use throughout the year. Canning is great as well. There are lots of resources on how to. Or share with your neighbors and friends if you have an amazing green thumb. There are organizations you can donate to with excess produce, so check your local organizations.

Maybe you don’t want to grown veggies or herbs. With the water shortages in various states it might be a good year to research clover lawns, native gardens (check your local arboretum for native plants). There are so many options, opposed to a traditional grass lawn.

I will have my seed cookies available this year as well. Those are great to get pollinators back in your garden. You can also check with local farms to see if there are community activities. A local one to me is hosting how to make Fire Cider. I love seeing these community events return because gardening IS about community.

I hope these tips help and get you excited for the Spring. Happy Gardening!
